Three years after their debut album, *Le Retour*, Ultramoule makes their triumphant return with *Gros Gâteau*. At its core a dominant shared foundation persists—though never oppressive, of course—cemented upon distorted strings and analog drum machine sounds. However, Ultramoule goes further. Each track offers a distinct flavor. This album embodies the wish one makes before blowing out the candles on a birthday cake; it is a militant yet joyful celebration of the long-awaited end of the patriarchy. Each song explores a political perspective that is simultaneously intimate and collective. Sprinkled with a healthy dose of humor and deliberately designed to be danceable, *Gros Gâteau* remains, nonetheless, a serious work. The album aspires to be disruptive in both substance and form, seeking to break with dominant paradigms in its sound, its lyrics, and its overall approach. Musically speaking, this album—difficult to categorize—follows a clear trajectory that fuses techno, punk, rap, and orchestral elements. Strings take on a prominent role, and harmony takes center stage in numerous tracks. The raw texture of the analog sounds from the Elektron Analog Rytm MK2 intertwines with a multitude of carefully selected samples and ambient sounds—drawn from their personal library of field recordings—to imbue the entire sonic fabric with greater coherence between form and content. The lyrics are sung, rapped, whispered, shouted, and harmonized. There is something here to satisfy everyone's appetite; *Gros Gâteau* strives to be original and multifaceted enough to be truly inclusive.
