Bosse-de-Nage and Deafheaven’s landmark 2012 Split has been newly remixed and remastered and returns to vinyl and cassette for the first time in 14 years. Featuring new artwork by photographer Dylan Hausthor, the long-awaited reissue breathes new life into an essential early collaboration between two acclaimed Bay Area metal bands.

Formed in 2006, Bosse-de-Nage first encountered Deafheaven at one of the latter’s earliest shows, held at a now-defunct art gallery in San Francisco’s Mission District. Deafheaven’s demo had just begun making a splash online. “Their performance was amazing; it was clear right away that they were a force to be reckoned with,” Bosse-de-Nage recalls. At a time before blackgaze and post-black metal had fully cohered into recognizable movements, the bands recognized something familiar in one another. They began playing shows together and formed a friendship that has endured ever since.

The exact genesis of Split has been lost to time. Arriving just over a year after Deafheaven’s 2011 debut Roads to Judah, neither band can remember who first proposed the collaboration, only that the idea made immediate sense. Deafheaven contributed a cover of Mogwai’s “Punk Rock / Cody,” while Bosse-de-Nage contributed the original “A Mimesis of Purpose,” which marked their first collaboration with Astrid J. Smith, arranging and performing strings.

Released by The Flenser in 2012, Split became an early milestone for the label and both bands. “We’ve been looking forward to this project for a while,” Deafheaven vocalist George Clarke said at the time. “It’s very exciting to be working with two of the most innovative and forward-thinking staples in the Bay Area, Bosse-de-Nage and Flenser Records.”

After years out of print, both bands chose to revisit their contributions rather than simply repress the original release. Longtime Deafheaven collaborator Jack Shirley of Atomic Garden remixed “Punk Rock / Cody,” while Richard Chowenhill of Agriculture remixed Bosse-de-Nage’s “A Mimesis of Purpose,” bringing new clarity and dimension to both recordings.

Fourteen years later, Split remains a document of two bands encountering one another at a formative moment, recognizing something in each other before either knew where their music would lead. Newly remixed, remastered, and reimagined, the 2026 edition returns that moment to the present.

Finally back in print after 14 years of waiting.

Shipping, Local Pick Up, Returns & Cancellations Policies.

SHIPPING:

We ship Monday through Friday. Orders typically ship within 24-72 hours. Tracking is sent to the email you provide at check out and may take a few days to become active.

Any items ordered with Pre-Orders will be held until they can all ship together. If you need in stock items faster please order them seperately.

LOCAL PICK UP POLICY:

Due to a large amount of unclaimed local pick ups over the years we have updated our policy. Any orders that remain unclaimed after 90 days from the initial "ready for pick up" notification will be considered abandoned and returned to our system without refund. If you are having issues picking up your order within this time frame please contact us via orders@1234gorecords.com. If you need your order shipped we can easily do so for an added shipping fee.

RETURNS:

Returns are only accepted on damaged or defective items. Return requests must be made within 7 days of delivery. Please save the original packaging.

If you own a Crosley, Victrola or any other lower end turntable that has no ability to adjust the weight of the tone arm and are experiencing skipping on a new record please try the "Penny Trick". Simply place a penny on the top of the cartidge and it should provide enough weight to resolve your issues. While a great entry to the world of vinyl we do recommend upgrading to a turntable with a tone arm that can be adjusted as this issue will randomly occur. We do not take returns in these cases.

Resellers: If you are buying from us for resale we honestly don't mind. However, please don't panic if something you bought suddenly isn't flipable for more money and then try to return stuff to us because you feel like you made a bad investment choice. Despite our outsized reputation we're a small shop, not amazon. Absorbing these costs adds up on places like ours. Plus a little patience always tends to pay off.

CANCELLATIONS:

Due to an increasing number of payment processors no longer returning transaction fees to sellers on cancelled orders and rising labor costs any orders or pre-orders that need to be cancelled before shipment will be assessed a 5% cancellation/restocking fee on the order total including shipping and any other taxes or fees associated with the order.

Thank you for your understanding.
