Renowned for their Afrocentric vision, militant activism, and unmistakable sonic identity, X Clan quickly rose to prominence. Their 1990 debut album To The East, Blackwards sparked both acclaim and controversy, reaching No. 11 on Billboard's Top R\u0026amp;B\/Hip-Hop Albums and No. 97 on the Billboard 200. The record delivered several standout singles, including \"Heed The Word Of The Brother\" backed with \"Raise The Flag\", \"Funkin' Lesson\" backed with \"Shaft's Big Score\", \"Grand Verbalizer, What Time Is It?\", and the funk-driven, sample-heavy track \"Verbal Milk\".
